Beth Middleton

The moment Beth realised that university wasn’t for her, she went for it and launched her career at O2.

When Beth left sixth form, she chose to study Digital Marketing at uni. But she soon realised that the learning style didn’t suit her. She’s more of a practical learner. So, after just six months she moved back home and applied for an O2 apprenticeship.

When she came along to her O2 assessment, Beth was amazed by our unique culture. She noticed that everyone seemed to have a smile on their face. She also thought her assessment would be a bit intimidating. But it’s like a social chat rather than an interview. Which made it easier for her to make friends with the other candidates. She now works with some of them at O2! We gave Beth the choice of a role here or a place on our Degree Apprenticeship in London.

For Beth, the decision was a no brainer. And after being with us for four months, she stands by her decision. The flexibility and support our apprenticeship offers helped her make the transition from education and work. She’s also enjoyed endless opportunities. She’s attended events, travelled abroad and got to hang out with our Talentum community, making contacts that will help her grow her career. Being in a corporate environment for the first time can be challenging. But our Early Careers Team do everything they can to make it as easy as possible.

If you’re thinking of becoming an O2 apprentice, Beth’s advice is to be yourself. And if you feel you don’t have the right qualifications or experience – don’t worry. O2 look for talented people of all ages and backgrounds they can invest in and develop. There’s no reason not to give it a go – the right moment to do it is right now!

Emily Butler

Emily joined us as an apprentice because she wanted to enjoy the best of both worlds. Living in the moment at O2 means you don’t need to choose between education and a career – you can have it all here.

O2 stood out for Emily, because of the training and many educational and career opportunities we offer. She enjoys being paid to learn new skills on the job while studying towards a recognised qualification.

Emily feels that her apprenticeship has been an amazing experience so far. She thinks it’s been a great introduction to the world of work. She gets to learn all the time and put her skills into action, which has helped her to grow in confidence and prove what she’s capable of.

We asked Emily what she’d say to someone who was thinking of becoming an O2 apprentice. Her best piece of advice would be to listen, take notes, stay organised and enjoy every moment. If you do, you’ll learn so much here and develop the skills you need to do more than just a job. You’ll really be able to take your career places.

Manali Barolia

In a moment of inspiration, Manali realised that university never really appealed to her. She became an apprentice at O2 because she felt it was the most practical way for her to build her career. She thought it was the ideal route for her, because she learns best on the job.

Since she joined us as an apprentice Manali has loved the experience. She’s studying for a qualification. She learns all the time as part of our innovative and professional team. She’s also getting paid too. What’s not to like? Manali believes there are many reasons why you should become an O2 apprentice. Sure, it can be a bit challenging at times. But we provide our apprentices with the time, space and support they need to complete their work and assignments.

One of her favourite things about our O2 apprenticeship scheme is that you’re never alone. It could feel intimating being the newest and least experienced in your team. But the support from her manager, buddy and team made the transition easy. Plus, she started at the same time as around 30 apprentices. So, she was always able to talk to people in the same boat as her.

Manali also enjoys the great perks and extras you get at O2. They’re countless. Flexible working. A work phone. Laptop. Great discounts. Events in and around the office. The list goes on and on.

Looking for a stepping stone straight into a career? Then an O2 apprenticeship is for you. Don’t worry if you don’t know anything about the role. Just like Manali, you’ll be able to soak up knowledge like a sponge and enjoy opportunities to learn something new every moment of every day.
