Area Description

Wayra Builder is a lean multidisciplinary team part of the Open Innovation unit. Wayra Builder´s mission is to identify and validate business models to drive new revenue streams for Telefonica Group with the agility of an startup and the power of a corporation. We work using rapid prototyping process and the cycle identify problem-> design solution-> test-> learn is our mantra. Following this way of working, we deliver initiaves to:

• Build a dedicated startup if the initiative can benefit from being a separate company and we help it grows. We stick to the open nature of the name of our unit here, we never play alone: business opportunities identification and validation, talent acquisition process to identify the right founders and the investment for the succesful initiatives to become start ups are delivered together with partners and the founders themselves. Ideas may come from either inside Telefónica (with the aim to do spin-outs) or outside Telefónica (academian, other corporates, other venture builders, founders that submit their ideas through our website,...).             

• Support  Wayra startups to grow and accelerate their product market fit and evolution with the 360 expertise of the team (product, research, UX/UI, engineering, business development).

Mission

Wayra Builder engineering team oversees all team’s technology responsibilities, from idea assessment to prototyping and creating initial MVPs. We also support our created startups in their first years of life. Our main missions are:

• To evaluate and to escort from a tech perspective the new ideas that joins our Venture Builder ecosystem.
• To design and to create tier 2-3 prototypes from new ideas and to become part of our startups future products.
• To help our startups grow, improving their products and services and helping them to overcome the technical difficulties they may encounter. 

Main tasks and responsibilities

• Analysis and technological audit for new ideas to become part of our venture builder ecosystem. It implies keep up to date on new technology trends.
• End-to-end responsibility for area prototypes from coding to deployment (including technical design, development test plan creation, deployment strategy, scalability model)
• Developing boilerplate projects, sample modules, API skeletons, automation scripts, etc. for our startups.
• Automate processes for quality assurance and improving platform's CI.
• Work closely with the startups technical team to understand the status of the products, the urgent issues and the main bottlenecks and risks. Propose concrete actions to improve the startup product, increasing the performance, reducing the deployment costs, reinforcing the QA and CI practices, etc.
• Act as the technical advisor for our startups, keeping up to date on technology trends, cloud strategies and applications performance.

Education

• Bachelor/ Master/ PhD degree in computer science, telecommunications or an equivalent STEM.

Technical Skills

• Knowledge of most adopted programming languages: full stack profile and at least the basics of mobile application development.

• Knowledge of technologies, infrastructure, and security in cloud environments (Azure, GCP, or preferably AWS).

• Knowledge of Linux and machine administration.

• Experience with configuration and deployment automation tools such as Ansible.

• (optional/desirable) Knowledge of basic metaverse and blockchain related technologies.

• (optional/desirable) Experience with database (MySQL, MongoDB) optimization and operation.

• (optional/desirable) Experience with data analysis tools and knowledge of ML and/or AI concepts.

Skills and Competencies

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think strategically.

• Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment.

Professional Experience

• Strong technical background, with at least 3 years of experience in software development and/or platform/solution architecture.

• Involved in a production project in a development/architecture/devops role.

Languages

Fluency in English and Spanish. Candidate must be able to attend technical meetings and wirte/review technical documentation, specifications, etc.
