Telefonica Innovación Digital - Discovery Research is hiring for a short-term research project focused on Network Programmability for Enhanced Security and Privacy.
Telefonica Innovación Digital - Discovery Research is a leading industrial research lab based in Spain (Barcelona and Madrid). At Telefonica Innovación Digital - Discovery Research, we follow an open research model in collaboration with Universities and other research institutions, promoting the dissemination of scientific results both through publications in top-tier peer-reviewed international journals and conferences and technology transfer. Our multi-disciplinary and international team counts several full-time researchers, holding PhD degrees in various disciplines of computer science and electrical engineering.
We are looking for a researcher (close to finishing their PhD or in early stages after the PhD) to join our team of experts in advancing software-defined, programmable and highly secure networks. During this short-term project, which can last up to 6 months, the researcher will be responsible for designing and implementing novel in-network security and privacy solutions using the latest generation of programmable network devices supporting P4.
Key Responsibilities:

Design and develop novel in-network security and privacy solutions, considering the constraints of P4 and the underlying hardware.

Conduct extensive experiments and evaluations to assess the performance of the proposed solution and apply optimizations to it if needed.

Stay up to date with the latest advancements in network programmability, related standards, and/or industry trends.

Produce technical reports and documentation to communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:

PhD (or close to completion) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

Strong research track record (e.g., publications in top-tier conferences and journals) in network programmability (e.g., SDN, P4-based data plane programming) and network security.

Hands-on expertise in experimenting, measuring, and evaluating networked systems.

Experience with high-speed networking software (specifically Intel® P4 Studio) and/or hardware (specifically Intel's Tofino switches) is required.

Strong oral and written communication skills in English.

Ability to work in a highly collaborative, international and interdisciplinary environment.
