Programme Background:

 

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEAIS) formally known as The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) have taken a leading position in the EU by building the Smart Metering Implementation Programme (SMIP). This is a large scale programme supporting climate change objectives through the mass deployment of 50m+ electricity and gas smart meters across 30m homes starting in September 2015.

 

Telefónica has been contracted as the Communications Service Provider (CSP) for the programme for 2 out of 3 regions.

 

We are looking for an experienced individual for a permanent role as a Technical Project Manager with preferably with Smart metering product experience.

 

 

How will you fit into this?

 

As a member of the SMIP Devices team, you will work with the Technical Product Managers and Change and Quality manager and report directly to the SMIP Devices Programme manager.  You will be responsible for creation and day to day managing of delivery plans for multiple deliverables, running of project review meetings internally, and with suppliers, attending the customer project meetings.  You will also be required to manage customer expectations while delivering to tight timescales.

 

 

Some of the more specific responsibilities:

 

  • The role holder will be expected to build & maintain relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers at senior levels, and matrix manage shared and virtual teams to develop comprehensive plans for the delivery, communications and engagement in order to realise business benefits at the earliest opportunity
  • Responsible for the definition of the project, working with key stakeholders to derive an agreed business scope and requirements, then producing all foundational documentation as appropriate to the delivery methodology of the programme/project e.g. Project Definition Report, governance and control documentation and schedules.
    The Project Manager will contributes to business cases and manage the process to ensure sign off in a timely way.
  • Responsible for all elements of project management, including but not limited to risk assessment, ensuring the production of control documentation, leading project progress meetings, timely and concise communication to the project team and stakeholders, and ensuring all operational & business requirements are met to enable transition to live.
  • Ensure that the appropriate resources are allocated to the Project working with all areas of Operations, Third Parties, Practice Managers and Functional areas.
  • Work with appropriate suppliers and other third parties, taking an active part in commercial and contract negotiations where necessary.
  • Responsible for the management of internal and external dependencies impacting the project, and apply an appropriate governance and escalation process for these impacts.
  • The Project Manager will live the values of the organisation, and seek to become a behavioural role model to others.

 

 

What we need from you:

 

  • Strong Project Management experience
  • Background in Energy, Smart Metering or Telco is a must
  • Experience of working on complex project in a multi-vendor environment
  • PRINCE 2 practitioner qualification
  • Writes well structured, clear plans and reports
  • Competent in required project methodology
  • Microsoft Project experience
