General description:
The open position is within the Environment and Human Rights Corporate Department, which is one of the 4 areas reporting into Telefonica’s Chief Sustainability Officer.
The mission of the Environment and Human Rights department is to design, develop and implement strategies and actions to act upon opportunities and to mitigate risks and in relation to a wide range of sustainability topics, ranging from environment and climate change over sustainable supply chain management to human rights. We are also the technical area supporting sustainable financing and taxonomy reporting. And we do this at a global level, with impact in all the Telefonica footprint geographies and businesses.

 

Main functions:
The sustainability expert we are looking for will manage a variety of projects in relation to the impulse of sustainable finance and financial impact of sustainability, including the strategic approach of these topics:
Reporting on sustainability and financial impact (CSRD and others)

  • Participation in Telefónica's annual corporate report of non-financial information, following CSRD requirements.
  • Internal control of non-financial information. Support in auditing processes.
  • Participation in climate change risks and opportunities related with financial impact and planning.
  • Climate Action Plan related with financial planning
  • Implement specific projects to fill the GAPs of new regulation
  • Define general process and accompanied the internal transformation projects, both at local and global level, in collaboration with other different teams and companies of the Telefonica Group (i.e: financial impact of climate change)
  • KPIs definition, monitoring, assurance.

 

Development and Implementation of the European sustainable finance framework, i.e.: taxonomy of sustainable activities:

  • Environmental technical screening criteria of different activities implementation and verification
  • Social minimum safeguards implementation
  • Internal control of non-financial information. Support in auditing processes.

 

Development and implementation of sustainability projects related with sustainable finance: 

  • i.e.: Carbon fund; carbon pricing.

Support in the issuance of green bonds; annual impact report and its internal control processes implementation.


Participation interdepartmental groups with different geographies for the implementation of different projects and engagement with relevant stakeholders.
 

Reporting on topics mentioned above: Feedback to relevant ESG ratings/ranking (e.g. Sustainalytics, MSCI, CDP…)  

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences or related, also considered Business/Legal/Science/Engineering with a postgraduate in environment
  • Previous experience in sustainable finance topics will be valued: green / sustainable bonds / loans issuance, carbon funds, carbon pricing, etc.

 

Experience

  • 10 years of work experience in sustainability, either in a company or consultancy 
  • Previous experience in environment/climate change is needed
  • Knowledge of regulatory environment (EU-level initiatives on sustainability matters; reporting obligations etc.) would be recognized

 

Languages

  • High-level fluency in English and Spanish is required.  
  • Other languages valued, specially Portuguese and German.

 

Skills

  • Passion and interest in sustainability trends and challenges
  • Good project management skills with attention to detail and comfort dealing with ambiguity.
  • Analytical skills including ability to identify gaps and opportunities. 
  • Experience participating in projects in a complex and international organizational environment.
  • Great communication and writing skills
  • Ability to produce deliverables: reports, presentations, Q&As, papers.
