The position will be part of the RAN innovation team based in Madrid, Spain, within the Global Access area of the Chief Technology Office (GCTIO) of Telefónica.

 

The candidate will work closely with universities, operators and vendors under the scope of different research projects fostering innovation through cutting-edge technologies. The main activity focuses on providing a deep understanding of new RAN technical enablers for 6G that will help evolving mobile networks.

 

OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION

 

  • Analysis of new technical enablers in 6G.
  • Analysis of new capabilities in RAN related to different 3GPP releases and O-RAN specifications.
  • Participation in European and national research projects, such as those of the SNS and UNICO I+D programs.
  • Participation in lab activities related to radio access networks

 

EDUCATION REQUIRED

 

Master Engineer, with RAN expertise, with more than six years of experience working on radio access networks design and evolution. PhD is a plus.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

 

  • Deep knowledge in radio access networks with special focus on 5G/5G-Advanced wireless domain including network architecture, protocol stack and standards.
  • Strong knowledge of L1/L3 RAN stack, coding algorithms and layer procedures implementation.
  • Good knowledge of air-interface relevant principles and algorithms for next-generation mobile networks (MIMO, OFDM, etc.,)
  • Strong knowledge of digital communication, signal processing and wireless communications systems.
  • Knowledge of RAN hardware design (RF, antenna unit, baseband processing unit, etc)
  • Knowledge of cloud/virtual networks (SDN/NFV/CNF/Kubernetes)
  • Knowledge of AI/ML principles.
  • Knowledge of global RAN standards (3GPP/O-RAN)
  • Strong experience working with programming languages (C/C++/Python) and object-oriented design skills.
  • Troubleshooting and bug debugging skills.

 

EXPERIENCE

 

  • +6 years experience in Radio Access Networks (RAN)
  • Highly valuable experience and understanding of O-RAN architecture.
  • Experience implementing advanced algorithms of LTE/5G layer procedures on simulator tools.
  • Proven experience in research projects, IPRs and scientific publications.
  • Experience working with link/network simulator tools (Matlab, NS-3, 5G-LENA, etc.)
  • Highly valuable experience in lab testing/integration activities related to radio access networks.
  • Experience working with open source code (GitHub)
