RAN Innovation - Analyst

The RAN Engineer position offered will be part of the Open RAN and New Radio solutions team based in Madrid (Spain) within the Global Access area of the Chief Technology Office (GCTIO) of Telefónica. The Open RAN and New Radio solutions team is leading the RAN innovation.

The position will involve gaining a deep understanding of new key RAN network capabilities and technical enablers in 6G.

MAIN ACTIVITIES AND OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION

The objectives of the position offered are:

• Analysis of new technical enablers in 6G
• Analysis of new capabilities in RAN related to different 3GPP releases and O-RAN specifications
• Support on RAN activities in lab (logistics, setup, test plans)

EDUCATION REQUIRED

Senior Telecommunications Engineer, with RAN expertise, with more than two years of experience working on radio access networks design and evolution.

SPECIFIC SKILLS

• Ability to work in a multinational and multicultural environment
• Strong verbal, visual, and written communication skills
• Capability to understand business requirements and convert into technological requirements
• Capability to interact with providers and integrators to run evaluation processes
• Capability to identify and resolve problems
• Capability to communicate at different levels (directors, engineers, …) to disseminate architecture propositions
• Project management capabilities to keep track of transformation programs in Operations
• Dynamic attitude, self-learner and proactive

TECHNICAL SKILLS

• Strong knowledge in the area of RAN network, especially 5G and 5G Advanced
• Knowledge of public cloud services and cloud architecture
• Knowledge of transmission networks (IP, Ethernet...)
• Capability to understand network architectures and protocols
• Knowledge of basic simulation and programming tools: Matlab, NS3...
• Knowledge of lab tools and testing: Keysight, Spirent
• Capability to design, install and configure computer hardware, software, networks, and telecommunications equipment
• Knowledge of electronic and electrical systems
• Capability to develop and program software applications (Phyton, Java, R…)

EXPERIENCE

• 2-3 years + experience in RAN Access networks
• Experience on following activities will be valuable:
  • Access networks: new technologies, protocols and Network architectures
  • Virtualization technology (NFV, SDN)
  • Containers based technology (Kubernetes)
• Experience in conducting lab and field testing
• Experience in troubleshooting bugs or issues with systems

LANGUAGES

• Advanced English language is mandatory
