Network Capability Junior Developer

The offered position will be part of the Technology Exploration unit in Global CTIO unit, currently identifying and refining the technologies for the exposure and access to network capabilities, addressing the Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) paradigm. NaaS is allowing Telefónica to improve the mechanisms our B2B and B2B2C customers use for requesting and consuming connectivity services. To this goal, the team is participating in joint research and standardization activities at the national, European, and international levels, collaborating with other major industrial and academic players.

MAIN ACTIVITIES AND OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION

• Specify NaaS architecture elements, for the exposure and access to network capabilities, applicable to Telefónica services worldwide. These elements include, among others: the API gateway (making APIs discoverable/consumable to customers, accounting, etc.), the policy manager (access control, multi-tenant aspects including security and privacy, etc.) and the service fabric (integration and communication with the network infrastructure resources implementing the exposed capabilities).
• Develop and validate prototypes for network capability exposure elements, preferably using open-source solutions.
• Assure the interoperability of network capability exposure elements with other ones, provided by industry partners and researchers collaborating with Telefonica.
• Study the applicability of new programming patterns (such as the serverless computing paradigm, or the in-network computing proposal) in NaaS, considering the business and operational needs of our customers: cloud providers, including hyperscalers, application developers, and enterprise customers.
• Collaborate in the implementation of demonstrators and pilots of these technologies for different Telefónica business units.
• Participate, contribute, and represent Telefónica to the standardization and open-source groups related to the above activities.

EDUCATION REQUIRED

Graduate, MSc or PhD in either:

• Computer Science
• Telecommunications
• Physics
• Mathematics
• Any related field

SPECIFIC SKILLS

• Ability to work in an open, international, and collaborative environment.
• Strong verbal, visual, and written communication skills.
• Able to work independently, focused on team goals and in coordination with it.
• Analytical, problem-solving capacities.

·       Self-learning, proactive and creative attitude with respect to technology and organization challenges.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

• Strong knowledge of REST APIs and JSON/YAML concepts.
• Strong knowledge of at least one of these programming languages: Python, Rust, Java, Go, C++
• Knowledge in microservice architectures used in modern cloud-native environments (e.g., API GW, service fabric).
• Knowledge of services and solutions available in top-tier public cloud providers (e.g,. Microsoft Azure, AWS).
• Knowledge of data modelling techniques  
• Experience in the execution of research projects in an international environment

EXPERIENCE

We are looking for a junior profile with experience at least doing some project in Trabajo Fin de Grado, Trabajo Fin de Máster or Intership

Experience on following activities will be valuable, but not mandatory:

• Networking: new technologies, protocols, and network architectures (5G and beyond)
• Software networks technologies: NFV, SDN…
• Cloud-native environments and container technologies: Docker, Kubernetes…
• Standardization activities

• English is essential
• Other European languages will be valued
