About the Role 

Market Development sits within Virgin Media O2 Business and is the team responsible for driving growth by establishing new and digital- first revenue streams from high-growth markets like 5G, IoT, Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence.  This role sits in the Product Engineering team.

 

The cloud platform architect will design, productionise, optimise and assist in the operation of the Market Development big data platforms and processes underpinning multiple data products across 5G, IoT, Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence. The candidate will also be able to design the best system architecture from business requirements and estimate implementation and maintenance efforts and costs, leveraging the cost and performance synergies between all the capabilities developed across the platforms.

 

Working within an agile product development and platform team, the candidate will be jointly accountable for the development and operation of our data products, delivering value to customers and understanding customer’s needs to deliver the best insights and experience. They will also support the wider team (e.g. data scientists) by assisting in building and helping to operate the internal processes and tools to deliver continuous improvement to products in a regular, reliable, and predictable manner through improving feedback loops throughout the product delivery process.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, productionise, optimise and assist in the operation of the Market Development big data platforms and processes
  • Development and operation of our data products, delivering value to customers and understanding customer’s needs to deliver the best insights and experience
  • Operate the internal processes and tools to perform continuous improvement and deliver changes to products in a regular, reliable, and predictable manner through improving feedback loops throughout the product delivery process
  • Create a well-informed cloud strategy and manage the adaption process.
  • Regularly evaluate cloud applications, hardware, and software.
  • Develop and organise cloud systems ensuring the best performance and minimising costs
  • Work closely with IT security to ensure compliance with VMO2’s privacy and security policies.
  • Respond to technical issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Identify the top cloud architecture solutions to successfully meet the strategic needs of the company.
  • Lead the development of new cloud systems, processes and products, coaching other technical team members and driving improvements in quality
  • Work with agile team to decompose capabilities/features into user stories with acceptance stories to seed the platform backlog
  • Work with Solution and Technology colleagues to define and prioritise requirements and features

 

What we need from you:

  • Extensive experience in at least one programming language – ideally Python or TypeScript
  • Strong understanding of analytical databases and experienced writing analytical queries in SQL
  • Experience designing, building, and operating data platforms in cloud environments – ideally Azure or GCP
  • Knowledgeable of large-scale data processing architectures for both batch and real-time processing
  • Hands-on experience with data processing services – managed and open source. For streaming; Event Hubs and Stream Analytics, and for batch processing; Databricks (and Spark)
  • Experienced using a CI and writing Pulumi or Terraform code for Infrastructure-as-Code
  • Familiarity with service orchestration via Kubernetes
