About the team


The Data Products team within O2 Business’ New Product Innovation function has been created to drive forward innovation in our data insight products. We work across the transport, retail, media and smart cities sectors to deliver insights based on a diverse range of datasets, including data created by O2’s mobile network, data from other parts of O2 and data created by IOT sensors.


About the role


The Data Engineer will develop and operate big data products. They will build, maintain, optimise and automate data processes through scripts and script control to create and improve data products, used to deliver insights to a wide range of clients. Working within an agile product development team, the role is jointly accountable for the quality, development and operation of our data products.


Key responsibilities


  • Delivering value to customers of the product – understanding customer needs and delivering better insights and experience
  • Developing software or code required to deliver the product, including REST APIs, visualisation tools, databases and data processing systems
  • Lead the development of new methodologies, processes and products, coaching other analysts in the team and driving improvements in quality
  • Continuous improvement of the ability to deliver changes to products in a regular, reliable, and predictable manner through improving feedback loops throughout the product delivery process
  • Developing a thorough understanding of Mobile Network Data and its processing to be able to take full advantage of the data assets


Key skills/experience


  • Extensive experience in writing and deploying code to customers
  • Confident in SQL, Python and at least one other modern programming language
  • Strong track record of defining and implementing changes independently
  • Experienced in effective use of Git for change control
  • Experienced in developing complex methodology, analysing data and visualising complex ideas to customer
