Programme Background:

 

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEAIS) formally known as The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) have taken a leading position in the EU by building the Smart Metering Implementation Programme (SMIP). This is a large scale programme supporting climate change objectives through the mass deployment of 50m+ electricity and gas smart meters across 30m homes starting in September 2015.

 

Telefónica has been contracted as the Communications Service Provider (CSP) for the programme for 2 out of 3 regions.

 

We are looking for an experienced individual for a Permanent role as a Comms Hub Delivery Manager.

 

 

How will you fit into this?

 

As the SMIP Comms Hub Comms Hub Delivery Manager you will be working with the Technical Product managers (TPM) to assist in the delivery of Smart Metering Communications Hubs (CH) and associated Firmware (FW). The primary responsibility will be to create release notes (RNs) for CH FW for each test phase and a Service User (SU) release note and group defects in to impact areas. You will also be required to assist in covering when the TPMs are on annual leave and contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the Communication Hubs design and capabilities. You will have to liaise with the internal Telefónica Teams and externally with the customer DCC.

 

As the Comms Hub Delivery Manager, you will be able to understand Design documents, test plans and Service Management Processes and Procedures, making sure they’re effective for the deployment of new Comms Hub FW to ensure risks are being mitigated and you will also hold discussions with stakeholders and to build relationships.

 

 

Some of the more specific responsibilities:

 

Working with the, Test Teams, Support Teams and Architects and reporting to the SMIP Senior Technical Product Manager, this role includes the following main responsibilities:

 

<span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">1. Comms Hub Firmware Deployment Analyst activities

  • Support the Comms Hub Firmware and Configuration Manager revising the CH FWDL Deployment Strategy as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements in consultation with Service management and SMIP Build and Support teams.
  • Create and deliver CH release and revise as appropriate to meet the need of the test phase.
  • Support continuous improvement of Processes and strategies.
  • Ensure documents are complete, current, and appropriately stored.
  • Works closely with relevant stake holders to ensure effective and efficient deployment of FW
  • Contribute to monthly reports on the number of updates being completed, and report on failures the reasons and work with others to implement corrective actions
  • Assist the TPM where required and cover for holiday periods.

  • Liaise with TEF SMIP Test team
  • Liaise with TEF Triage team
  • Liaise with TEF Service Management
  • Liaise with DCC operations team
  • Liaise with internal PMs
  • Liaise with CH vendors

  • Ensure the appropriate use of tools and processes are applied to achieve quality CH FW
  • Ensure issues captured, recorded and raised in a timely manner and if required escalated to the Programme.
  • Work with TPM and Triage teams to understand the defect impacts and customer impact of the defects..

 

 

What we need from you:

 

  • Experience working in product development is essential
  • Experience of working on complex technical solutions in a multi-vendor environment
  • Experience of working in product development
  • Experience of Testing products
  • Writes well structured, clear reports
  • Experience in energy / smart metering is preferred but we will consider other backgrounds such as IT or Telecoms
  • A good understanding of processes and policies
